This website contains photographs of Andy Knowles Railway and other images in the Lincoln area.

This site contains photographs taken in my work as Mobile Operations Manager for Network Rail in the Lincoln area.

The site mainly deals with Signal box photographs but also other events and visitors to the Lincoln area.  Additional albums are included showing birds and wildlfe whilst crossing the county on routine journeys or to and from work locations.

The interest in night photography comes from seemingly spending so much time working in the dark and the ability not to have to stop having to take pictures once night falls especially come Winter time. Night photography gives the chance to experiment further with lighting than can be achieved with daylight photography.

The  Lincoln area was re-signalled in 2008 with the closure of four boxes and the opening of a new Signalling Control Centre at West Holmes. Two blockade closures of the railway took place in August 2007 and July - August 2008 and pictures of this are shown in albums on this site.  Unfortunately I cannot show signal box interiors or railway incident pictures which I attend to on this site. The pictures are not normally available off site but Network Rail staff requiring copies for publications or Signallers requiring their work location prints can contact me by internal email prefixed with Andrew.Knowles

Please note: The photographs in this site were taken when on duty or with permission of Network Rail. Many were taken during line closures, engineering possessions or self generated line blockages between trains. The public should not enter the railway unless at authorised locations.
